"Someday" Funday: Things Are Getting Interesting

This version of Someday Funday is more about league business as its been two weeks since the last update. Quick run through of football action from the weekend included a depantsing of the Hawkeyes by Pervy Purdue Pete, another astonishing loss by Scott Frost and a bunch of honestly not the most arousing of match-ups. Northwestern played Rutgers and Wisconsin played Army... yeah not exactly a slate of games that can help with middle of the season erectile disfunction.

Like I said though, lets move onto league business.

Take a close look at the standings gentleman.

As you can see, we have once again, a new leader in the Clubhouse! Luke took advantage of what is quickly becoming a weekly shitting of the pants by whoever is in first the previous week with a 6-4 record that saw him snag 37 points. This week it was Derek muddying his knickers with a 5-5 record giving him his season low 19 points. He joins the many who have thought they were hot shit only to come crashing back to the rest of us. Here's Derek's journey...

You can actually hear Luke laughing in the background before Derek's run as king ends

The biggest story thus far through the first 7 weeks is the inability for anybody to distance themselves from the rest of the league. Two weeks ago, 8 players scored 40 or more points including a 9-1 record for Buddy and another record breaking performance of 48 points from Blake. However, since everybody is doing well at the same time as everybody else, the rewards for such performances have been minimal in terms of moving up the standings.

This past week of games saw that narrative change a little bit though as I proudly claimed the best performance of the week with a 7-3 record for 47 points. This was mainly the result of my Iowa pessimism unfortunately paying off as I had 8 points on Purdue to cover against the Hawkeyes. Coupled with a 40 point performance the week prior in which I only had a 5-5 record but collected my 10,9,8,7,and 6 point wagers. I'm finally trending upwards and I have vengeance on my mind... Im coming for you all.

You will all meet your doom

As mentioned previously, Luke snagged first with a 6-4 record and was joined by Buddy, Mike, Evan, and Ben with the same record. The points gained though by these five varied drastically as Luke grabbed 37, Buddy 34, Mike 23, Evan 27, and Ben 29. This is where Champions are crowned. The deep dive on the numbers comes out next week but a quick glimpse at Mike's performance tells all. While garnering the same record this week as the other four, Mike missed his 10,9,7, and 6 point wagers. That could prove fatal down the line. Ben's 29 point performance is more proof that he's simply throwing darts at a dart board to determine where his confidence points will land that week. Here's the perfect illustration of Ben's journey through the season so far and how it will most certainly end...

Ben flirting with death on a weekly basis

The same names constantly are mired in mediocrity in this league week after week. Brent, Ian, Teddy, and Tyler all continue to refuse to move up in the standings. This in part is due to the above mentioned league wide success that had been seen over the past few weeks but when given a chance, all of you have consistently underperformed. Brent, Teddy, and Tyler finished top 3 last year so the ability is there. We'll see if they can break out of the sophomore slump, while Ian is proving to still be as inconsistent as Midwestern weather.

That means the two bottom teams this week are Ethan and Blake. Ethan actually scored 27 points this week which sadly is a good week by his standards. Ethan's chances of pulling himself out of the basement are growing slimmer and slimmer each week. There is still a chance he could win the league but it will take a monumental effort to do so. His supporters are certainly getting antsy though as this footage shows Ethan's exit after last weeks performance.

Pood's doing his best to stay alive this season.

Lastly there is Blake, who again fell back behind Tyler in the never ending battle of the Graber brothers. A few weeks ago I went off on a rant about how Blake needed to choose whether or not he was going to be good or bad this year after a helter skelter start to the season. It looked as though Blake had listened and decided to take the route of being a real contender for the title. Back to back weeks saw him set points records of 47 and 48 points while compiling a 16-4 record during that time. Well, after a 3-7 record saw him gain a league low 18 points this week, Blake is right back where he started. Blake is basically Bill Murray in Ground Hogs day tormenting himself and us with these repeated performances of great and terrible with no in-between. Its exhausting dude. Can't wait to see your 7-3 week this week only to be followed by 3-7 the next.

Blake's performances run in a never ending pattern

With that, here are the Week 8 games.

Another slate of tricky spreads as Vegas now has enough data to start narrowing in on bettor's tendencies. These next few weeks could make or break several players chances at winning the Golden Can. Good luck and as usual, WRBL marches on.
